The Hollywood Reporter declares: "Mark McKenzie’s commanding orchestral prowess puts him among the foremost symphonists in Hollywood." His original compositions have been heard throughout the world in 22 films, 21 soundtracks and 3 television dramas. His compositions have been featured four times on the Academy Awards and repeatedly on the Olympics. They are heard many times each day at Disney World, were performed before the Pope and featured on Wimbledon. His "Gloria," premiered on the 2000th Robert Schuller Hour of Power broadcast and has become a perennial Christmas Anthem around the USA. While Mark has not been nominated for an Academy Award, his spiritually rich score to The Greatest Miracle was featured in Variety’s Eye on the Oscars. The score was doubly nominated for the IFMCA “Best Score of the Year” and won the HMMA’s “Best Indie Score of the Year.” Movie Music UK wrote: “Mark McKenzie writes some of the most beautiful, lyrical and emotionally resonant music ever written for film and I do mean ever written for film.” HIs recent feature film Max and Me was recorded at Abby Road along with concert violinist Joshua Bell, The London Voices, symphony orchestra, Libera Boys choir and numerous soloists. It is to be released on Sony Classical. Mark loves electronics as well and just finished composing an all electronic score to Universal’s Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire.

McKenzie began his composition career after completing his doctorate in Composition studying with Pierre Boulez, Witold Lutoslawski, Morton Lauridsen and then orchestrating over 100 feature films. As Variety says: “Mark McKenzie has been the “go to” guy behind-the scenes for top film composers” orchestrating for John Barry, Bruce Broughton, Randy Edelman, Danny Elfman, Mark Isham, Paul McCartney, Basil Poledouris, John Powell, Marc Shaiman, Alan Silvestri, John Williams and others. Mentored by Jerry Goldsmith, Mark orchestrated Goldsmith’s final 6 films and helped compose on The Last Castle and Looney Tunes. His orchestrations are available on soundtracks such as the Academy Award winning Dances With Wolves, the Academy Award nominated Men in Black, Good Will Hunting, The Patriot, and blockbusters such as Spiderman 1 and 2, Mission Impossible, Sleepless in Seattle, Sister Act, Star Trek 6,7,& 10, Ice Age: The Meltdown, A Few Good Men and the entire Elfman underscore to Tim Burton’s classic perennial Nightmare Before Christmas.
