SCL Mentor Program LA - Opportunity for Associate Members:
Applications Open for Spring 2018 Term

The SCL Mentor Intern Program has been designed to help introduce select SCL Associate Members to the industry here in Los Angeles.

Qualification for admission requires the applicant to be a current SCL Associate Member. An applicant will be ruled ineligible if credits qualify them for a higher level of SCL membership.

All SCL Mentor-Intern Program activities take place in the Los Angeles area. Selected applicants should be living in the LA area and be available to go to sessions during business hours. Most sessions are in the afternoon, but are scheduled at times that the mentors are available.

It should be noted this internship is unpaid and mentors are volunteering their time. These opportunities cannot always be confirmed with a lot of prior notice. However, efforts will be made to provide details as far ahead as possible.

During the course of the three-month program, the interns have the opportunity to interface with working composers, many of whom sit on the SCL Board of Directors and represent the business of scoring in all genres.

Activities include invitations to recording sessions, meetings with major agents, music attorneys, engineers, and other AV music professionals like music editors, orchestrators, music copyists, conductors and performing musicians, among others.

Interns (three to four finalists and two alternates per term) will be selected to participate in one of two annual terms.

The Spring Term runs from February 15 to May 15, 2018.

Applications for the coming terms MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE
HERE by MONDAY, JANUARY 15TH, 11:59 pm PDT and include the following:

  • MP3s of original film score music, or links to websites, Soundcloud links or DropBox links to electronic film score material totaling no more than 5 minutes of music. PDFs of scores should be included.
  • A statement no longer than one page indicating what the applicant hopes to gain from the intern/mentor experience, as well as the applicant's goals as a film/television composer.
  • A one-page resume with education credentials and credits, including all current and previous internships and workshops.
  • Optional: Vimeo or YouTube link to Reel.

Finalists and alternates may be asked to interview in person or over the phone with the committee prior to the start of the Spring Term.

Finalists and Alternates will be announced by February 1, 2018.

Any application missing any of the required materials will be disqualified. Questions regarding the application procedure can be directed to the SCL Mentor Program Committee via email:
