This hands-on panel gives in-depth explanations of music publishing, neighboring rights registrations and collections. We will explain what neighboring rights are, how performers and sound recording owners can be eligible for these rights, and how to register your claims. On the composition side, we will explain how exactly to fill out an EBR (Electronic Batch Registration) template for registering works at ASCAP/BMI/SOCAN, and we will demo software that converts EBR files to CWR (Common Works Registration) files. CWR is the global registration standard used by most collection societies and sub-publishers around the world.

If you have questions about music publishing, how to register compositions and sound recordings, or making money from the performance of your works, then this panel is for you.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists Seminar: Registration and Royalty Collection for Dummies - Scott Berenson Scott Berenson brings 20 years of experience in various sectors of the music business to SoundExchange. As Director of Rights Management, he heads up an initiative to ensure the rightful copyright owner is credited and compensated for their recordings. Through the claims program, copyright owners can claim poorly reported tracks, or dispute ownership if the track is paid to the incorrect master owner. Prior to SoundExchange, Scott was Senior Manager, Copyright Administration at EMI Music Publishing, where he was responsible for the registration of compositions with performing rights societies around the world as well as with the Library of Congress. He also coordinated with international EMI offices and other music publishers to resolve writer split disputes. Previous to that, he served as booking agent at The Brad Simon Organization, Inc., an artist and production agency in music and entertainment. Scott also held positions in concert production, tour management and operations management at organizations such as The Mayo Center for the Performing Arts and the PNC Bank Arts Center.
