Adrianne Duncan

Musician, Also a composer, arranger, producer and songwriter

Piano - also melodica and voice

Adrianne Duncan has been making music since the age of six. The daughter of renowned classical guitarist Charles Duncan (whose book series The Art of Classical Guitar Playing is used in university guitar programs worldwide), she honed her skills through private study, master classes with luminaries including Murray Perahia, Leon Fleisher, Emanuel Ax and Ruth Laredo, and summers spent as a scholarship recipient at such institutions as Tanglewood and Brevard Music Centers.

Adrianne attended Northwestern University on a music scholarship and is the winner of numerous piano competitions and scholarships. She has performed in multiple capacities: as a solo artist, in a duo, as an accompanist for individual musicians and musical theatre productions, with chamber groups, in jazz ensembles and as a soloist with a symphony orchestra. Her piano playing has been heard on National Public Radio and the soundtracks to feature films and television shows, and she has performed for such luminaries as President Clinton and Stevie Wonder.

Now a professional pianist, composer and singer based in Los Angeles, Adrianne has performed in multiple venues nationwide. She has performed and recorded with some of LA and New York?s most noted musicians, and has also worked as a session player and singer in jazz, classical, rock, pop, blues, dance and electronica. She is also a prolific songwriter and arranger, most recently co-writing, arranging and producing an album with actress/singer/songwriter Jacqueline Emerson (The Hunger Games) and creating soundscapes for LACE Theatre/La Danserie?s production of Lives Of Our Times at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. In addition to performing her own work, she performs regularly with her seven-person vocal improvisation ensemble Fish To Birds. She is also the founder and producer of LA Modern Jazz Series, a concert series featuring world-class creative jazz musicians.

As an instructor, Adrianne believes that the best teachers teach students to teach themselves. She fuses the jazz, pop and classical worlds to create a more vibrant musical picture for her students and allow them to think more creatively. Her students learn practice techniques and theoretical knowledge that develop their ability to progress on their own. She has a background and profound interest in working with special-needs clients, which have included children with autism, dyslexia, ADD and other learning disabilities, adults with physical disabilities such as MS, elderly students, and children as young as three. Her students include professional musicians who come to her for her extensive knowledge of piano technique, classical repertoire and advanced theory, including members of Maroon 5, Juliette Lewis & The Licks, film composers and instructors at Musicians Institute. She also coached actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw for her onscreen piano playing of Handel in her title role in the feature film Belle.
