MODERN SCORE WORKFLOW

Indie Films and Beyond

Monday, April 23, 2012

At:  Goodpenny, 152 W. 25th St., 11th Floor,  New York, NY 10001

"Modern Score Workflow, Indie Films and Beyond" provided attendees the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with journeyman composer DAVID WOLFERT as he interacted with industry colleague and music tech guru SHANE KOSS where they uncovered insider secrets using several current studio software favorites including Logic, ProTools, KONTAKT and the Vienna Instruments Library.  Attendees watched two music-to-picture pros work out what works FAST, what sounds BEST, and what won't choke one's CPU en route to writing-tracking-and mixing the kinds of way cool film cues everyone wants to turn in to their director but somehow never seem to manage. David and Shane showed their kind of audio/sequencing/ and plug-in magic that could take you to the next level.  Aside from their level of expertise and all that gear, attendees enjoyed meeting all the other NY composers in the room that night, getting and sharing info, and gaining new friends and colleagues.

Moderated by fellow SCL member and Broadway composer ROB REALE, sponsored by the Society of Composers & Lyricists NY.

DAVID WOLFERT is a Grammy and Emmy nominated Composer and Songwriter. His songs have been recorded by such diverse artists as Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Hudson and many others. He has worked extensively in Indie Films, Documentaries and Television and has scored thousands of television commercials and has won multiple Clios for his work. David is currently Music Director of  Goodpenny, an award winning creative boutique made up of equal parts editorial, visual effects, and musical talent.

SHANE KOSS, born and raised in rural Maryland, twiddled and fiddled his way through Berklee, Los Angeles and London to find himself in NYC where he now stays up way too late making strange noises and beating his computers into submission. The latter has helped him design studios and performance rigs both stateside and abroad. He runs  Alto Music NYC, a unique showroom catered to designing studios for composers and producers http://www.altomusic.com/nyc/. Many top composers rely on his expertise and steady hand to navigate through the murky world of music technology.

The SCL gratefully acknowledges the continuing support of our SCL Members,

along with ASCAP, BMI, & SESAC.
