Spend an evening with legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb as he is interviewed by SCL President Dan Foliart.

No other voice in American popular song has resonated more eloquently and passionately through the last forty years than that of Jimmy Webb. From his earliest hits, the uplifting UP, UP AND AWAY, GALVESTON, and the insightful, WICHITA LINEMAN to his latest musical portrait of the artist Paul Gauguin, his songs have captured the spirit, heart and imagination of the world he has been a part of. His iconic, MACARTHUR PARK, in which he explored an unconventional musical form for popular song, has been recorded countless times, remaining on the charts for an amazing 48 weeks for Jimmy’s friend Richard Harris and becoming a number one hit 10 years later for Donna Summer.

The names of the artists who have recorded his songs are as legendary as the man himself. Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Glen Campbell, the Fifth Dimension, Art Garfunkel, and Linda Ronstadt to name a few. His Grammy winning Highwayman united legendary superstars Wille Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash.

Jimmy Webb has been recognized by his peers numerous times with such prestigious awards as the Songwriters Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award and Johnny Mercer Award, as well as induction in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. His song WICHITA LINEMAN was nominated for Best Male Vocal Performance by James Taylor in this year’s recent Grammy Awards.

Sponsored by SCL, ASCAP, and NYU Steinhardt Dept. of Music and Performing Arts Professions Program in Scoring for Film and Multimedia. This is a special presentation of the 2009 NYU/ASCAP Foundation Film Scoring Workshop, Program in Scoring for Film and Multimedia Ron Sadoff and Michael Patterson.
