7:00PM to 9:00PM Ripley Grier Studios | Room F-G 520 8th Avenue, 16th Floor New York, NY 10018 Native Instruments' Kontakt has emerged as one of the foremost software samplers and compositional tools in today's music production world. Join us as prolific composer/producer David Das leads a workshop that will discuss everything from Kontakt basics (instrument edit mode, mapping, modulators, etc), setting up templates, and exploring the wide world of sample libraries currently being developed for the platform.
![]() With a background in pop and jazz but schooled in the classical tradition, David has lived and studied all over the world, including the U.S., England, Italy, and Singapore. He earned his degree in classical piano and conducting from the University of North Texas, and during that time was a member of the award-winning Jazz Singers. Later seasons in both Nashville and in his current home of Los Angeles brought opportunities to tour as a keyboard player, arranger, producer and musical director for such diverse artists as Grammy-winning singer Rebecca St. James, American Idol superstar Katharine McPhee, Rachael Yamagata, Mark Ballas, Israel Houghton, The Voice’s Amber Carrington, Ginny Owens, Margaret Becker, Rachael Lampa, Tori Kelly, Bryan Duncan, Ryan Farish, and many others. His television writing includes theme music for Nick Jr’s Parental Discretion, Supreme Justice with Judge Karen, The Young Icons, and additional music for dozens of shows ranging from the animated Dreamworks series VeggieTales in the House, American Idol, Amish Mafia, FOX Football Daily, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, HBO’s Homeland, Pawn Stars, Say Yes to the Dress, The Sing-Off, So You Think You Can Dance, and many more. He also does sound design work for Big Fish Audio, MOTU, and Native Instruments. He serves as President of the Academy of Scoring Arts, and is also actively involved with the Society of Composers and Lyricists, BMI, Television Academy (Emmys), and the Production Music Association.
