THE SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS AND LYRICISTS Presents A SPECIAL MEMBER EVENT with PHILIP GLASS Featuring a screening of THE FOG OF WAR

The SCL invites each member and a guest to a full-length screening of THE FOG OF WAR, made available by Sony Pictures Classics on Monday, November 17th, 2003 at 7:30pm. Following the screening, PHILIP GLASS will discuss the music for the film, including a Q&A segment.

Film scores by PHILIP GLASS include THE THIN BLUE LINE, A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME, Martin Scorsese’s KUNDUN (L.A. Film Critics Association Award in 1998 as well as Oscar and Golden Globe nominations), Peter Weir’s THE TRUMAN SHOW (Golden Globe Award), KOYAANISQATSI and his Oscar-nominated score for THE HOURS, directed by Stephen Daldry. Philip Glass' repertoire ranges from opera, dance, theater, orchestra and film. 2003 premieres include the opera THE SOUND OF A VOICE with David Henry Hwang, the CD release of ETUDES FOR PIANO Vol. I, No. 1-10, and the score to Errol Morris’ new film THE FOG OF WAR.

THE FOG OF WAR is a 20th century fable, a tragic Horatio Alger story of an American dreamer who rose from humble origins to the heights of political power. Robert McNamara was witness to many of the crucial events of the 20th century. He is also an idealist who saw his dreams and ideals horribly challenged by the role he has played in history. Although strictly speaking, neither a work of biography nor a work of history, THE FOG OF WAR has produced new biographical and historical material. Directed by Errol Morris (Thin Blue Line, Fast Cheap & Out of Control) the film was produced by Morris, Michael Williams and Julie Ahlberg.
