TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2002, 7:30 p.m.

The SCL invites each member and one guest to attend an exciting evening that begins with a full-length screening of SIGNS, made available by Touchstone Pictures on Tuesday, October 1st, 2002. Following the screening, James Newton Howard will discuss his score for the film, including a question & answer segment.

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD re-teams with writer-director M. Night Shyamalan after scoring "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable." Howard has scored more than 65 feature films and earned five Academy Award nominations. Among his most celebrated contributions to film music are the Oscar nominated scores for "The Fugitive," "The Prince of Tides" and "My Best Friend's Wedding." He has also written the Oscar-nominated songs "Look What Love has Done" (from "Junior") and "For the First Time" (from "One Fine Day"). He is currently scoring "Treasure Planet," his third feature film for Walt Disney Feature Animation, following his scores for "Dinosaur" and "Atlantis: The Lost Empire." For television, Howard has composed and/or written memorable themes for which he has garnered two Emmy Award nominations for the series "ER."

In SIGNS everything that farmer Graham Hess (MEL GIBSON) assumed about the world is changed when he discovers a message an intricate pattern of circles and lines carved into his crops. As he investigates the unfolding mystery, what he finds will forever alter the lives of his brother (JOAQUIN PHOENIX) and children (RORY CULKIN, ABIGAIL BRESLIN). Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan takes moviegoers on a new journey with his film "Signs," a unique story that explores the mysterious real-life phenomena of crop signs and the effects they have on one man and his family.
