A complimentary soundtrack CD will be given to each SCL member attending the screening and Q&A. Reservations required.

Elliot Goldenthal has received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations as well as winning the L.A. Film Critics Award for Best Original Score. His composing career includes his orchestral piece Fire Water Paper: A Vietnam Oratorio, the ballet Othello, and film scores Interview with the Vampire, Michael Collins, Alien 3, Drugstore Cowboy and Heat. Frida is the second feature film score Goldenthal has composed for his partner, acclaimed director, Julie Taymor.

From her complex and enduring relationship with her mentor, to her illicit and controversial affair with Leon Trotsky, to her provocative romantic entanglements with women, Frida Kahlo lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic and sexual revolutionary. Salma Hayek (Desperado, Fools Rush In) stars in this fall's highly anticipated drama. Hayek, who depicts the larger-than-life artist, is joined onscreen by an outstanding cast including Alfred Molina (Chocolat), Antonio Banderas (Desperado and The Mask of Zorro), Edward Norton (Fight Club), Ashley Judd (Where the Heart Is) and Geoffrey Rush (Quills).

Contributing to Frida's erotic themes, Elliot Goldenthal has constructed a mix of powerful acoustic guitar playing, romantically reflective arrangements and up-tempo folkloric-influenced tracks. Adding to the authenticity of the film, Goldenthal mixes together rhythms and themes from a variety of ethnic cultures, including Mexico, Spain, Cuba and Brazil. The Frida disc also features an exclusive haunting vocal duet from Brazilian-music giant Caetano Veloso and Lila Downs, known for blending Latin, Native American and African sounds. The soundtrack album will be an enhanced CD containing exclusive bonus materials, including a film clip montage by Taymor, inspired by Goldenthal's compositions.
