Subject: BLACK (UNDERSCORING) FILM COMPOSERS: EVENING THE SCORE

Host: Samm Brown
Venue/Format: KPFK/Live - Talk on Recording Industry/Film/TV Music,
Independent Artists, Entertainment Industry News Magazine presented weekly.
CONFIRMED GUEST(S):
1. REGGIE WILSON, (Disney Company, VP, Music Production Admin.)
2. TODD COCHRAN, (Composer, "Woman Thou Art Loosed")
3. CHUCK CRISAFULLI, (Feature Writer, Hollywood Reporter)
4. LAURA DUNN (Executive Director, The Society of Composers & Lyricists)

In an article appearing in the Hollywood Reporter (January 4, 2005), titled "Evening The Score" reporter Chuck Crisafulli, noted: "...it is no surprise that the film industry might harbor social inequalities as seen in the world at large, but it is striking that the creators of music for film and television remain predominately white and male....it's clear to (Hollywood) insiders that....diversity is not yet reflected among Hollywood composers."

Samm Brown and guests will be following up on questions raised in that article, as well as asking other questions including: Why African-American composers are only primarily considered for underscoring "Urban" (Black) oriented films, and not the more big budget "mainstream" (white) films. And also, what solutions are there to opening the real (and sometimes perceived) barriers, particularly among the large studios.

In their last week of Black History salutes to prominent African-Americans in show business, they'll be exploring these notions for a most interesting, enlightening, entertaining hour of discussion.
