Gary Stockdale wins Outstanding Music Award at 2007 New York International Fringe Festival

BUKOWSICAL! - - the very funny, very adult musical written by SCL Member Gary Stockdale and Spencer Green--just won the "Outstanding Musical" award at this year's New York International Fringe Festival. With this award, BUKOWSICAL! follows in the footsteps of other successful shows that played the Festival in their early days, such as Urinetown.

BUKOWSICAL! tells the story of the Sacred Angel Fist Circle of Note Gang, an edgy L.A. theatre company trying to raise money for a show about the life of infamous scribe Charles Bukowski. The show originally began as a 50-minute late-night show in Los Angeles in March 2006, then became a full-length production later that year thanks to sell-out crowds and rave reviews. (Backstage West: "Terrific fun, and so wrong in all the right ways." Los Angeles Times: "An uproarious romp!" LA Weekly: "Riotously funny!")

Following an acclaimed performance at New Mexico's prestigious Revolutions International Theatre Festival, BUKOWSICAL! was invited to appear at the New York Fringe Festival, where it again played to sold-out crowds and glowing reviews. (Talk "BUKOWSICAL! has staked its claim on the New York theatrical scene...It's an evening of glorious fun." Edge New York: "Boozy, bitter, brash and barrels of laughs, the musical called BUKOWSICAL!' deserves its exclamation point." "A very polished, high-energy, amusement park ride of a show.")

As soon as Stockdale, Green, and the cast and crew hit town, the show began selling out, causing the Fringe Festival to extend the show's run. In Variety's coverage of the New York Fringe, a representative for the Festival succinctly described audience demand for BUKOWSICAL! : "It's been a frenzy."
