SCL Member DAN CARLIN appointed Chair of the Film Scoring Dept. at Berklee

BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC SELECTS SCL MEMBER DAN CARLIN AS NEW CHAIR OF THE FILM SCORING DEPARTMENT

Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts has appointed SCL member DAN CARLIN as Chair of the Film Scoring Department at the Berklee College of Music, effective September 1st of this year. Established over 60 years ago in downtown Boston, Berklee provides mentoring, training and educational programs to 4,000 students annually. Among its illustrious alumni are numerous SCL Members and others including SCL Advisory Board Members Quincy Jones, Alan Silvestri, and Howard Shore, past SCL Board Member Alf Clausen, and many others including Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, Diana Krall, Bruce Hornsby, Steve Vai, Alan Broadbent, Kevin Eubanks, Branford Marsalis, and many more—all of whom have combined to garner numerous Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys. Berklee’s internationally respected Film Scoring Department was formed in the mid-1970s under the leadership of composer Don Wilkins, who stepped down as Chair last year. Don remains on the faculty, as does Eric Reasoner (Dan Carlin's Segue Music colleague), who has been serving as Interim Chair during the search process.

Dan Carlin is an Emmy-winning music editor, Emmy-nominated music director, and was the music supervisor and principal conductor on two Golden Globe-nominated film-scores. He was co-founder and CEO of Segue Music, the largest and most successful music post-production business in Hollywood history. Chair Emeritus of the Recording Academy (the GRAMMY organization), Dan served over 20 years on the Motion Picture Academy's Music Branch Executive Committee. He has been a juror for both the Television Academy and the Irish Film & Television Awards; helped design, fund, and develop the composer program at the Sundance Institute; created and sponsored the first internship program at The Berklee College of Music; helped design and establish the UCLA Film-Scoring Program; was the Executive Director of the Henry Mancini Institute, and consults for the ASCAP Film Composer's Workshop. A passionate advocate for music education, Dan is a frequent contributor to panels, seminars and lectures. Dan and his wife, Lynn, will be moving soon to Boston this summer, and look forward to reuniting with east coast friends, but also plan visits back to L.A.
