Bruce Babcock/Composer In Residence

Bruce Babcock will be the Composer-In-Residence at the 2005 Santa Barbara Chamber Music Festival June 10-12.

The Third season will again feature artist colleagues of the Festival's founder, Daniel Kepl, in performances of chamber music by American composers of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The concert venue is Santa Barbara's First Congregational Church, located at 2101 State Street, two blocks north of Mission (take the Mission Street exit off the 101).

The American Composer in Residence for 2005 is Emmy Award winning former Santa Barbaran, Bruce Babcock. The Festival artists are excited to present three world premieres by the Bruce this summer: a new string quartet entitled "the present moment," a new sonata for violoncello and piano "imagined/remembered" and a set of three piano "Metaphors." The Festival artists will also perform Babcock's "TRIO" for clarinet, viola and piano and "Soliloquy" for solo flute.

This summer's celebration of American chamber music will also include masterpieces by Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, Peter Schickele, Samuel Barber and John Biggs, to name a handful of American composers to be performed.

"One of the most exciting new developments on the local cultural landscape." — Josef Woodard /Santa Barbara News-Press.
