AGON & ORCHIS, music by Igor Stravinsky and Sonya Belousova

Festival Ballet Providence, Rhode Island's premiere professional ballet company, invites you to experience AGON & ORCHIS, "a double-bill of groundbreaking ballets, then and now..."

In 1957, George Balanchine choreographed a work unlike anything created before. AGON, meaning contest in Greek, is a unique piece of music by Igor Stravinsky with Balanchine's choreography. The New York Times described the 1957 premiere as "ingenious and fantastically off the beaten path." To experience this work is to witness a piece of history.

ORCHIS is the newest work composed by the SCL member Sonya Belousova. This is a stunning multimedia collaboration with the renowned choreographer Viktor Plotnikov, Rhode Island photographer A. Cemal Ekin, whose series of photographs of orchids inspired the ballet, world-renowned glass artist Toots Zynsky and lighting designer Alan Pickart.
